Home Loss Shrinks Cardinals' Series Lead to 3-1
|
The Kansas City Royals have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading St. Louis Cardinals, winning 4-2 at Busch Stadium today. Royals right-hander Rick Reed was named player of the game after he threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Royals to 3-1 in the best-of-7 Division Series.
Roberto Alomar had a critical at-bat with two out in the top of the ninth. The Kansas City second baseman came through with a solo home run to put Kansas City in front, 4-2.
"We're happy," Alomar told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."
Game 5 is set to be played tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Kevin Brown for the Kansas City Royals and Dave Fleming for the the St. Louis Cardinals.
