The 1997 season is off to a good start for the Asheville Moonshiners. The hometown Moonshiners dumped the Hartford Whalers, 6-5, at Torrance Grounds. Darren Bragg spearheaded the win. He went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Reliever Mike Draper picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Cory Lidle took the loss.

Bragg had a game-changing single in the bottom of the ninth. On a 1-2 changeup from Cory Lidle, he banged a 2-run single to center, giving the Moonshiners a 6-5 lead. It was the 3rd hit of the year for Bragg.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Bragg told the Asheville Daily News.
