Sun Rays Win to Extend Series Lead to 2-0
|
Riding the 2-hit performance of right fielder Kirk Gibson, the Orlando Sun Rays stopped the visiting Chicago Cubs, 7-4, in Game 2 of the Division Series today. Gibson was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk, while scoring 2 runs for the Sun Rays, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 0.
Ryan Thompson in the bottom of the sixth had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and the Sun Rays trailing 4-3, the Orlando center fielder hit a run-scoring single.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Thompson told reporters after the game.
The next game is set to be played Friday, September 30th, 1994 at Wrigley Field. Slated to start are Kevin Appier for the Orlando Sun Rays and Eric King for the the Chicago Cubs.
