Devarez Goes Off, But Whalers Win
The inspired effort of Ocean City catcher Cesar Devarez was not enough to prevent a 6-5 loss to the Hartford Whalers. Devarez slugged 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Turk Wendell closed it out for his 1st save. The win leaves Hartford with a record of 4-3.

Edgardo Alfonzo went 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks for Hartford. The top prospect had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring walk off Carlos Valdez. It was his 4th walk of the season.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Alfonzo said after the game.
