David Ortiz made an impact in the 6-4 Danville win over Ocean City. Ortiz, the 6th overall pick in the 1996 draft, was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. The win was credited to Mike Fyhrie in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Ramon Morel took the loss. Danville goes to 4-2 with the win.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With no one out, Ortiz hit a fastball from Rafael Carmona for a 2-run home run. The Dairy Daddies, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
