League Championship Goes the Distance, Chicago Prevails
|
It went the distance, but the Chicago Cubs finally disposed of the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 in the series clincher at Wrigley Field.
Winning the finale gave the Cubs the series, 4-3. They will now advance to the World Series. The Most Valuable Player Award went to Chicago first baseman Mark Grace. He batted .346 in the series, collecting 5 RBIs and scoring 2 runs.
"Mark deserves it," said Cubs manager Anthony Perez. "He was the glue that held our club together."
The Chicago Cubs will play against the Seattle Pilots in the next round. Seattle won their series against the Colorado Rockies 4 games to 1. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship finishes.
