Beasties Get Close Win Over Whalers
The Bluff City Beasties beat the Hartford Whalers, 7-5, at Wolves Ballpark. The Beasties got a fine performance from designated hitter Brian McRae, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Bluff City reliever Mark Small picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-1. Rich Batchelor was collared with the loss. Brad Clontz picked up the save, his 2nd.

The game turned with two out in the top of the eighth when McRae hit a 2-run home run. It propelled the Beasties into the lead, 7-5.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," McRae told the Bluff City Times.

With the win, Bluff City pushes its record to 3-4.
