Almost There: Chicago On Cusp of WS Triumph After 8-5 Win
|
The Chicago Cubs moved to within one game of the Round 4 today, downing the visiting Seattle Pilots at Wrigley Field by a score of 8-5. Cubs catcher Mike Piazza was named player of the game after he was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The win gives the Cubs a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 World Series.
The game was all tied up in the bottom of the eighth, until Piazza delivered big-time for Chicago, stroking a dramatic 2-run double off John Franco. The game-changing hit put the Cubs on top, 7-5.
"We have been clicking right from the start of this series, so our mission statement at the moment is just don't tinker with anything," Chicago manager Anthony Perez told reporters.
Game 5 is scheduled for tomorrow in Chicago. The scheduled starters for the game are Todd Van Poppel for the Seattle Pilots and Teddy Higuera for the the Chicago Cubs.
