Belle hits 2 home runs, Senators Move to 10-3
|
The Washington Senators topped the Montreal Expos by the score of 9-6, with the biggest share of the credit going to designated hitter Albert Belle. Belle belted 2 home runs. He drove in 7 runs and scored twice for the Senators on the day. Livan Hernandez, who went 5.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 6 runs on 8 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 2-1. Picking up the save was Jim Poole, his 1st.
One important at-bat for Washington came with one out in the top of the sixth inning. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Belle hit a 3-run home run, which contributed to the Senators win.
"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Washington skipper Alexander Cumana.
Washington, at 10-3, has sizzled in the early going.
