The Baltimore Orioles got a magnificent effort from pitcher David Wells, who kept New York hitters in check en route to a 2-1 Orioles win at Memorial Stadium. Picking up the save was Julian Tavarez, his 1st. The Orioles raised their record to 8-6.

The Orioles got a big at-bat from first baseman Matt Franco. For the game, Franco went 3-4 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run single. His 14th hit of the season gave Baltimore a 2-0 lead.

"I like our moxie," said Orioles manager Daniel Ward.
