Whalers Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Slammers
|
The Hartford Whalers turned back the Southeast Slammers, 7-6, at Wolves Ballpark. John Wehner was named player of the game for his fine performance. He went 4 for 4 with 4 singles, while scoring 3 times. Hartford reliever Billy Wagner was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Aaron Small took the loss for Southeast. The Slammers fall to 5-7 and continue their lackluster start to the 1995 season.
A key moment came in the bottom of the ninth inning when Whalers designated hitter Randy Milligan socked a 0-2 curveball to center for a run-scoring single, putting Hartford up, 7-6.
"We'll take this win and move on," said Milligan.
