Otters Win at Columbus, 7-3
|
The Milwaukee Otters beat the Columbus Clippers, 7-3, at Mules Ballpark. The Otters got a fine performance from third baseman Cal Ripken Jr., who captured player of the game honors. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The Clippers fall to 7-10 and continue their lackluster start to the 1997 season.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 3rd and one out in the top of the fourth inning. That's when center fielder Oddibe McDowell, who is tied for 2nd in the ATL in triples with 2, drew a walk. The Otters went on to win.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Ripken Jr. told the Milwaukee Gazette.
