Mud Hens Lose, 5-2, at Paradise Grounds
|
It was a fun time at Paradise Grounds, where the Toledo Mud Hens and Savannah Swamp Foxes tangled.
The Savannah Swamp Foxes got a stellar performance from pitcher Rick Helling, who handcuffed the Toledo offense en route to a 5-2 win at Paradise Grounds. Helling went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 12 hits, walked 0, and struck out 4. His record improves to 2-0.
Orlando Palmeiro had a big run-scoring single for the Swamp Foxes in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Savannah leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Rick Huisman and stroked the single to center. It was his 25th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Swamp Foxes ahead, 2-0.
Palmeiro expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
No one expected much of this team but the hot start by Savannah might have some re-evaluating their pre-season predictions. The win today pushes their record to 9-6.
