It was a good time at Torrance Grounds, where fans came to watch the Bluff City Beasties and Asheville Moonshiners get after it.

The Asheville Moonshiners picked up a win at Torrance Grounds, knocking off the Bluff City Beasties, 7-1. Starting pitcher Matt Beech played a key role in the triumph. Beech, now 2-2, was the winner. In 8.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 8, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run.

In the bottom of the second, Asheville shortstop Deivi Cruz had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out, Cruz stroked a 2-run double to right. It made the score 3-0, Asheville. For the game, he was 1-4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Cruz said.

The Beasties fall to 9-11 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1997 season.
