Swamp Foxes Prevail, 1-0, Over Columbus
|
In a low-scoring game between Savannah and Columbus, pitcher C J Nitkowski was excellent. The Savannah left-hander was named the player of the game in Savannah's 1-0 win. The Clippers fall to 8-11 and continue their lackluster start to the 1997 season.
The Swamp Foxes got a big at-bat from right fielder Jimmy Hurst. For the game, Hurst went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 4th home run of the season gave Savannah a 1-0 lead.
"We take it day by day here," said Nitkowski, "and today was a good one for us."
