Swamp Foxes Subdue Columbus, 6-4
|
The Savannah Swamp Foxes stopped the Columbus Clippers, 6-4, behind an impressive performance from Sandy Martinez. The 24-year old catcher made life miserable for Columbus pitching. He went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. Savannah, now 14-9, has gotten their season off to a good start.
Martinez had a game-changing single in the top of the seventh. On a first pitch curveball from Bryan Eversgerd, he banged a run-scoring single to right-center, giving the Swamp Foxes a 5-4 lead. It was the 35th hit of the year for Martinez.
"The more wins we pile up," said Martinez, "the more I like our chances."
