Cardinals Come Back Late to Clip Royals
|
The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Kansas City Royals, 8-7 at Busch Stadium, in part due to left fielder Stan Javier, who nabbed player of the game honors. He was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. St. Louis reliever Steve Olin picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Armando Benitez was collared with the loss. The win takes St. Louis to 9-8.
Tim Raines, the St. Louis right fielder, contributed a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to make the score 8-7, Cardinals. For the game, Raines went 2-5 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2.
