Whalers Turn Back Suns, 5-3
|
The Hartford Whalers picked up a win at Wolves Ballpark, knocking off the Jacksonville Suns, 5-3. Starting pitcher Bryan Rekar, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Jeff Nelson was credited with the save for Hartford, his 2nd of the season. The Whalers, now 23-14, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
The Whalers got a big at-bat from catcher Kelly Stinnett. For the game, Stinnett went 1-4. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 33rd hit of the season gave Hartford a 2-1 lead.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Rekar told the Hartford Today.
