Victory Over Braves Takes Cincinnati to 11-4
|
The Cincinnati Reds had to overcome a big game from Atlanta second baseman Mickey Morandini to leave Atlanta Fulton County Stadium with a 8-5 victory. Morandini went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times. Joey Hamilton got credit for the win, improving to 1-2. He allowed 5 runs on 7 hits in 8.1 innings. The save was credited to Todd Worrell, his 2nd.
The Reds got an important contribution from right fielder Bernie Williams, who in the top of the first knocked a 3-1 slider into left for a 3-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Reds ahead, 4-0.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Williams told the Cincinnati Daily News.
The Reds have hit the ground running, raising their record to 11-4. While it's still too soon to talk about Cincinnati hoisting their 1st World Series trophy, fans are getting excited about their strong start.
