Foster Lays Hammer Down in 8-2 Win
Spirited fans at Fenway Park greeted the Boston Red Sox for their clash with the Cincinnati Reds.

The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Boston Red Sox, 8-2, in Federal League action at Fenway Park, with Cincinnati pitcher Kevin Foster named player of the game. The Red Sox drop to 5-10 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1997 season.

Foster was effective for Cincinnati, seldom allowing the Red Sox to square up a pitch. The right-hander tossed 130 pitches over 8.1 innings. He limited Boston to just 2 runs on 3 hits.

"I thought we played a nice game," Foster told the Cincinnati News. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
