Swamp Foxes Continue Skid Thanks to Herrera, Slammers
|
Jose R Herrera left his imprint on the 8-5 Southeast win against the Savannah Swamp Foxes. Herrera, who is tied for 10th in the ATL in stolen bases with 3, was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Southeast reliever Carlos C. Maldonado picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Johnny Ruffin was saddled with the loss. Earning his 3rd save for Southeast was Aaron Small.
Had Jeffrey Hammonds not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Hammonds hit a bases-clearing double. That made the score 8-5, in favor of the Slammers.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Herrera said.
The losing streak for Savannah has now reached 6 games.
