Cyclones Score Late, Upend Swamp Foxes, 8-6
|
The Brooklyn Cyclones downed the Savannah Swamp Foxes, 8-6, at Ballpark of Fremont. The Cyclones were led by Phil Nevin, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs. Brooklyn reliever Mike Mimbs got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Ron Rightnowar was tagged with the loss. The Cyclones, now 22-22, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
In the bottom of the eighth, first baseman Mike Marshall hit a 2-run single to left. The single, which was hit off of Ken Ryan, gave Brooklyn a 7-6 lead.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Marshall told the Brooklyn Bulletin.
