Clippers Pull Off Thrilling Win in Extras
|
Danville got a terrific performance from pitcher Scott Scudder, but it wasn't enough to beat the Columbus Clippers. Columbus won the Kernels Ballpark contest, 6-5. Scudder was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings allowing 2 runs. Columbus reliever Greg Gohr was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Mark Thompson took the loss. Earning his 10th save of the year was Nelson Cruz.
The result might have been different for Columbus, had it not been for Wendell Magee. The center fielder produced a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Clippers ahead, 6-5. For the game, Magee had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"It's a satisfying feeling, to win like we did," said Magee.
The Clippers, now 21-25, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
