Cyclones Prevail, 9-7, Over Columbus
|
The Brooklyn Cyclones defeated the Columbus Clippers, 9-7, at Mules Ballpark. Brooklyn catcher Takeshi Nakamura was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 2 for 5 with 2 doubles. He drove in 5 runs. Danny Cox earned the win for Brooklyn. He lasted 8.1 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 12 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 7-2. Mike Sirotka recorded the save for Brooklyn, his 2nd of the season.
Nakamura had a game-changing double in the top of the sixth. On a 1-0 slider from Carlos Pulido, he banged a bases-clearing double to left, giving the Cyclones a 5-2 lead. It was the 4th double of the year for Nakamura.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Cyclones manager . "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
The Cyclones, now 23-22, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
