Nevin Helps Brooklyn Edge Hartford
|
Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Phil Nevin, the Brooklyn Cyclones defeated the Hartford Whalers, 4-3. Nevin went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Cyclones. The winner was Steve W Sparks, who threw 153 pitches over 8 innings. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs on 8 hits. Picking up the save was Jim Mecir, his 8th.
Nevin had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a first pitch fastball from Brad Cornett, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Cyclones a 4-3 lead. It was the 10th home run of the year for Nevin.
"This was a good win," said Nevin.
Brooklyn, at 25-24, sits in third place in the Atlantic Northeast.
