Royals Lose to Yankees, 2-1
|
The Yankees grabbed a win, 2-1, at Yankee Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Kansas City pitcher Kevin Brown. Brown went 7 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. New York reliever Jose Mesa was the winner. His record is now 1-1. Kevin Brown took the loss. The Royals, now 9-7, continue their sluggish start.
Had Andy Stankiewicz not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Stankiewicz hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Yankees.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Kansas City manager Daniel Drucker. "The effort was great."
