Florida and Chicago duked it out at Wrigley Field and the Marlins came out victorious.

Kevin Appier pitched a gem to lead Florida to a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs. The win brings the Marlins to 10-7, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.

Had Richie Sexson not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Sexson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Marlins.

"Coulda, shoulda, woulda," said Chicago manager Anthony Perez. "We had our chances and didn't cash in."
