Clippers Sneak Past Mud Hens, 6-5
|
Getting a good performance from left fielder Quinton McCracken, the Columbus Clippers defeated the Toledo Mud Hens, 6-5. McCracken was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Clippers. Toledo, at 18-34, has lost 5 straight.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Joe Girardi came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing Toledo pitcher Mike James, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting Columbus on top, 6-5.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Girardi told a Columbus Gazette reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
