Jacksonville Pockets 7-5 Win Over Brooklyn
|
The Jacksonville Suns stopped the Brooklyn Cyclones, 7-5, behind an impressive performance from Mike Scioscia. The former first round draft pick made life miserable for Brooklyn pitching. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Kevin Ritz earned the win for Jacksonville. He lasted 7.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on 11 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 6-0. Gene Walter picked up the save, his 18th.
With Jacksonville leading 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Scioscia came up to bat against Brooklyn pitcher Mike Bertotti. Scioscia hit a changeup to left for a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season put the Suns on top, 7-1.
"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Scioscia.
By defeating Brooklyn, the first-place Suns improved to 42-13.
