Padres Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Mets
|
New York got a terrific performance from pitcher Tom Glavine, but it wasn't enough to beat the San Diego Padres. San Diego won the Jack Murphy Stadium contest, 3-2. Glavine was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 1-hit ball. With their winning streak at 4, the Padres have raced to a strong start this season.
San Diego took the lead with two out in the bottom of the eighth when Manny Ramirez stroked a run-scoring double. That made the score 3-2 in favor of San Diego. For the day, Ramirez was 1-4 with a double.
"I like what I saw today," said San Diego manager , "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
