|
The bad news for the Cincinnati Reds: an opening day loss, 6-4, to the Florida Marlins at Riverfront Stadium. The good news: it was just game one in a long season. Earning player of the game honors was Juan Encarnacion. He was 2-5 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Billy Wagner, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 3 innings.
Encarnacion had a game-changing home run in the top of the 13th. On a 2-2 fastball from Felix Heredia, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Marlins a 6-3 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Encarnacion.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Encarnacion said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
