It was a good time at Ballpark of Ft. Lauderdale, where fans came to watch the Hartford Whalers and Rochester Red Wings get after it.
The Rochester Red Wings beat the Hartford Whalers, 6-2, at Ballpark of Ft. Lauderdale. Damon Mashore was recognized as player of the game for his performance. He went 3 for 5 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The 27-year old center fielder was a menace to Hartford all day. Reliever Brad Pennington picked up the win. His record improves to 1-1. Bobby Chouinard took the loss.
With Rochester trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the second, Mashore came up to bat against Hartford pitcher Bobby Chouinard. Mashore hit a curveball to right-center for a 2-run single. His 81st hit of the season put the Red Wings on top, 3-2.
"It was a solid team effort," said Mashore after the game.
The Red Wings improved to 27-37.
