Whalers Trip Red Wings in Extras
|
The Hartford Whalers got a magnificent performance from pitcher Jimmy Haynes, who muffled the Rochester offense en route to a tight 3-1 Whalers win at Ballpark of Ft. Lauderdale. Hartford reliever Cory Lidle picked up the win, bumping his record to 2-3. Chuck Crim was collared with the loss. Brad Cornett was credited with the save for Hartford, his 1st of the season.
It could have been a different outcome for Hartford, had it not been for Rod Myers, the 24-year old center fielder . Myers contributed a 2-run double in the top of the tenth inning to put Hartford up, 3-1.
"Coulda, shoulda, woulda," said Rochester manager . "We had our chances and didn't cash in."
Hartford is now 47-18, 6 games up in the Atlantic Northeast.
