Calderon Delivers Clutch At-Bat for St. Louis in Walk-Off Win
|
The St. Louis Cardinals overcame a good performance by Cleveland third baseman Kevin Mitchell to knock off Cleveland, 7-6, at Busch Stadium. Mitchell went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. St. Louis reliever Randy Myers was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Steve Karsay took the loss. The win takes St. Louis to 9-9.
There were several reasons the Cardinals beat the Spiders, but one factor was Ivan Calderon. In the bottom of the ninth, the St. Louis designated hitter came to bat and hit a walk-off 2-run single. It staked his team to a 7-6 lead.
"It's great to get the crowd pumped up," Calderon said.
