Royals Sneak Past Yankees, 8-7
The Kansas City Royals sent the home crowd home smiling from Royals Stadium.

The Kansas City Royals managed to get by the New York Yankees, 8-7, at Royals Stadium. Kansas City pitcher Rheal Cormier took player of the game honors. Kansas City reliever Rheal Cormier got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Calvin Schiraldi was tagged with the loss.

Parking one for Kansas City was Jim Thome. The designated hitter had a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth for the Royals. It put his team ahead, 8-7, and sent them on to victory. For the game, Thome was 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Thome told the Kansas City Chronicle.

Kansas City, now 11-7, has gotten their season off to a good start.
