Victory Pushes Senators Record to 13-4
|
The Washington Senators picked up a win at RFK Stadium, knocking off the Seattle Pilots, 7-1. Starting pitcher John Burkett, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Burkett, now 3-0, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 8, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. Washington, now 13-4, has gotten their season off to a good start.
The Senators beat the Pilots with some clutch hitting. The double by Eric Davis in the bottom of the first is a good example. With two down, Davis gave his team the lead, 2-0, when he came through with the big hit.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Washington manager Alexander Cumana.
