Big Day by Hayes Sparks Swamp Foxes Win
|
The Savannah Swamp Foxes relied on the hitting of first baseman Charlie Hayes to stop the Brooklyn Cyclones, 12-9. For the game, Hayes was 4-6 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. The winner was Dave Fleming in relief. His record improves to 3-2. Matt Perisho took the loss. Antonio Osuna, credited with the save, is now 5 for 6 in save opportunities.
Hayes came through with some timely hitting for Savannah. With the score 2-1 in the top of the second and two down, Hayes hit a first pitch fastball for a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season made it 5-1, Savannah.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Hayes said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The first-place Swamp Foxes have a one-game lead in their division.
