Grieve Lifts Tigers to 12-8 Triumph
In a high-scoring contest between Detroit and Colorado, designated hitter Ben Grieve was a difference-maker. Grieve, who is tied for 2nd in the UL in doubles with 7, earned player of the game honors in the 12-8 Detroit win. He went 4-6 with 3 doubles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 5. Reliever Danny Graves picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Jeff Russell took the loss. Rigo Beltran closed the door for Detroit, picking up his 2nd save of the year.

Grieve had a game-changing double in the top of the eighth. On a full count changeup from Jeff Russell, he banged a 2-run double to left, giving the Tigers a 10-8 lead. It was the 7th double of the year for Grieve.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Detroit skipper Julio Izquierdo.

The Rockies, now 10-8, continue their sluggish start.
