Hartford Whalers starter Mike Thurman was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Savannah Swamp Foxes, 6-5. Cory Lidle converted his 26th save in 29 tries. Hartford leads the Atlantic Northeast by 5 games.

Jason McDonald put Hartford in front, 6-2, when he took David Nied downtown. His solo home run came with no one out in the bottom of the third. It was his 2nd home run of the season.
