Orioles Prove Rude Guests, Win 3-2 at San Diego
|
Baltimore Orioles starter Steve Avery was in fine form against the San Diego Padres at Jack Murphy Stadium, leading his team to a 3-2 win. In 6.2 innings, Avery surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Getting the save was Julian Tavarez, his 2nd.
Baltimore used the bat of Matt Nokes to get the win. The catcher hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Orioles ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"I like what I saw today," said Baltimore manager Daniel Ward, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
The Padres fall to 8-9 and continue their wobbly start to the 1997 season.
