Pirates Prevail, 8-6, Over Texas
|
The Texas Rangers got a superb performance from first baseman Rico Brogna, but the Pittsburgh Pirates still won the game, 8-6. Brogna was named the player of the game despite the loss. He was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Bryan Harvey picked up the save for Pittsburgh, his 7th of the year. The Rangers, now 5-14, continue their poor start.
Pittsburgh used the bat of Greg Vaughn to get the win. The pinch hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Pirates ahead, 7-6. It was his lone hit in 1 at-bat, but it did its damage.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Pirates manager Stephen Ginter. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
