Cardinals Stumble, Lose to Marlins
Spirited fans at Busch Stadium greeted the St. Louis Cardinals for their clash with the Florida Marlins.

Florida Marlins starter Wilson Alvarez was definitely locked-in. He led his team to a win over the St. Louis Cardinals, 8-2. Alvarez, the winner, moves to 1-1. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 6 walks. Terrell Wade recorded the save for Florida, his 1st of the season.

Richie Sexson put Florida in front, 4-0, when he took Chris Hammond downtown. His 2-run home run came with two out in the top of the third. It was his 10th home run of the season.

"I'm just happy to help the team win," Sexson told the Florida Chronicle.

The Cardinals drop to 9-11 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1997 season.
