Clippers Win at Southeast, 3-1
|
The Columbus Clippers got a strong performance from pitcher Jeff Pico, who stymied the Southeast offense en route to a 3-1 win at Ravens Ballpark. Doug Simons converted his 23rd save in 25 tries. Columbus is 4th in the Atlantic Northeast with a record of 51-57.
Columbus used the timely hitting of Alvaro Espinoza to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning to put the Clippers on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Espinoza told reporters after the game.
