Red Wings Score Late, Stun Moonshiners, 4-3
|
The Rochester Red Wings sent the home crowd home smiling from Ballpark of Ft. Lauderdale.
The Asheville Moonshiners got a superb performance from pitcher Matt Beech, but the Rochester Red Wings still won the game, 4-3. Beech was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. Tim Scott got credit for the win, improving to 5-4. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 1.2 innings.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Rochester trailing 3-2, Rich Aurilia hit a forkball from Mike Draper to right-center for a 2-run double. Just like that, the Red Wings had a walk-off win.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Aurilia said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
Asheville's current losing streak is now 4 games.
