Swamp Foxes Come Back Late to Top Whalers
|
The Savannah Swamp Foxes bested the Hartford Whalers by a score of 9-6, with shortstop Masahiro Kawai getting the main credit. On the day, Kawai went 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4 for the Swamp Foxes. Savannah reliever Don Schulze was the winner. His record is now 2-0. The losing pitcher was Brady Raggio. The second-place Swamp Foxes improved to 66-50.
Kawai had a game-changing single in the bottom of the eighth. On a first pitch curveball from Brady Raggio, he banged a 2-run single to left, giving the Swamp Foxes a 7-5 lead. It was the 88th hit of the year for Kawai.
"If it's down the middle," said Kawai, "you might as well hit it."
