Mets Come Back Late, Nip Athletics
|
New York rode a decent outing from starter Bob Milacki to victory over the Oakland Athletics at Oakland Coliseum. The final score was 5-4. Milacki, the winner, moves to 2-2. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 9 and giving up 2 walks. The Mets have hit the ground running, raising their record to 13-7. While it's still too soon to talk about New York hoisting their 1st World Series trophy, fans are getting excited about their strong start.
New York used the bat of Sammy Sosa to get the win. The right fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mets ahead, 5-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"It's a mindset," said Milacki. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."
