Simms Shines in Slammers Win
Mike Simms helped his team muscle past the Jacksonville Suns, 5-1. In the game, the Southeast left fielder was 2-3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. Kevin Gross, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held the Suns to 1 earned run on 4 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 2. With the victory, the Slammers record now stands at 64-54.

There was more than one reason the Slammers beat the Suns, but Simms's big at-bat in the bottom of the first was an important factor. He staked his team to a 4-0 lead when he hit a grand slam.
