Spiders Subdue Chicago, 5-3
|
The Cleveland Spiders topped the Chicago Cubs by the score of 5-3, with the biggest share of the credit going to left fielder Darryl Strawberry. Strawberry went 2-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Spiders on the day. Ron Robinson was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 10 hits, with 2 walks and 9 strikeouts. Sterling Hitchcock earned the save for Cleveland, his 6th.
The Spiders got a gift in the bottom of the third inning, when they were leading 4-3. With two out and the bases loaded, Mickey Morandini reached on an error by the 2B, driving in 1 run. It made the score 5-3, Cleveland.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Morandini, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
The Cubs fall to 9-10 and continue their uneasy start to the 1995 season.
