Clippers Fall Short, 2-1, at Savannah
|
Savannah starter Alan Benes put a stranglehold on the Columbus offense. The right-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Swamp Foxes to a 2-1 win. Benes picked up the win for Savannah, going 8 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 11-9. Dustin Hermanson got the save, his 9th in 11 chances.
Terry Bradshaw had a big run-scoring single for the Swamp Foxes in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Savannah leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a slider from Anthony Young and stroked the single to left. It was his 124th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Swamp Foxes ahead, 2-0.
"We had a good game plan," Benes said, "and we were able to execute it."
Savannah now sits at 55-66, while Columbus falls to 56-65.
