Sounds Hope Opening Day Win Bodes Well for Season
|
The 1997 season did not get off to quite the start the New Orleans Brass had hoped, with an opening day loss to the Nashville Sounds at Bay Hawks Ballpark. The final score was 5-3. Left Fielder Dion James was named player of the game for Nashville. Nashville starter Tony Saunders was credited with the win after throwing 130 pitches over 7 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Chad Fox picked up the save for Nashville, his 1st of the year.
It could have been a different outcome for Nashville, had it not been for Raul Casanova, the 24-year old catcher . Casanova contributed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put Nashville up, 2-0.
James attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."
